Captian's Log #2 Stardate 6741

The deal fell through on the bike. :( I can only assume someone offered more than the listed price for it (or someone contacted her before me and paid the listed price). I'll just have to find one when I get to Freiburg.

HOWEVER, I did get the other deal :D. The girl who is sold it is super nice, and is throwing in some other things for free (such as half used detergent, dryer sheets, fabreeze, etc)
The following list is what I got with the $215

These first items were under a $5 catagory
  • For your Bedroom
    • Full Length Mirror
    • 2 red glass vases-$5 for both
    • 4 wall mirrors (each 1ftx1ft)-$5 for all 4
    • 1 framed poster of a flower (matches the bedding)
    • 5 bulletin boards (small, around 1x1.5 ft)-$5 for 2 or 3…Just email me and let me know how many you want!
    • 4 picture frames (for regular size pics)-$5 for all 4
    • 4 picture frames (8x8)-$5 for all 4
    • 1 Side Table/Nightstand
    • 2 garbage bins-$5 for both (they are small and it’s nice to have one by your desk and one by your sink)
    • 2 shoe racks (I used them more as book shelves)-$5 for both
    • 1 foldable chair (don’t have people over with no seating)
    • 1 regular size pillow (with dark red or white pillowcases)
    • Dark Red rug (matches bedding)
    • Dark Red blanket (also matches bedding)
    • Closet Set includes 25 hangers and a mesh hanging storage item with 3 compartments
    • 1 laundry basket (don’t keep your dirty laundry in ikea bags!)
    • Curtain Rod (with curtains)
  • For your desk
    • Computer Speakers
    • 3 round bulletin boards that hang on wall-$5 for all 3
    • School supplies (pens, tape, stapler, 3 binders, 3 folders, thumb tacks—buying this new here is expensive and time consuming!)
    • Desk Lamp
    • German English Dictionary (Save the space in your suitcase)
    • 3 European Power Cords (you will want a lot of these so there aren’t cords running across your floors)
    • Alarm Clock
    • Set of 5 storage baskets, various sizes (without the regular bathroom space I was used to, these were a lifesaver)
    • 1.5 Liter Travel Mug
    • Christmas Lights

These items were listed at $10 each

  • For YOU! (Having European plugs on these is essential for traveling. Trust me, you don’t want to lug a converter with you everywhere!)
    • Remington Hair Dryer
    • Vidal Sassoon Hair Straightener
  • 2 large (80x80 cm) pillows-$7 each/$10 for both
  • Bedding Set includes: 1 duvet cover, 1 large (80x80 cm) pillowcase (both white with dark red flowery pattern)
  • Bedding Set 2 includes: 1 large pillow, 1 feather blanket (The feather blankets alone cost around 25 euro at IKEA)
  • 1 Converter (works for higher voltage items, like hair straigteners, computers, etc)
  • Floor Lamp
  • JVC Stereo/CD player with detachable speakers
  • 13 in. TV (with remote and wall cable)

I think I made a pretty good deal :D. The only thing I absolutely don't need is the hair straightener (as my hair is already straighter than straight). But I'm sure I can either sell it when I get there, or save it for the next year's flea market.
Some of the other things (bulletin boards, picture frames, etc) I don't really need, but they'll be nice to have

Captain's Log #1 Stardate 6741

Only 45 days left until take off.

All my paperwork is done (besides things that must be done in Germany (ie, opening a bank account, getting a living permit (basically a visa)).

The flea market info came out on the 4th, and I'm haggling for a complete bedroom/desk set, and a bicycle. The bedding is cute, kind of Victorian England style (it looks kind of like this toile), and everything matches. It's probably more girly than my past rooms, but I think a well placed pirate flag it'll tone that factor down :).
As for the bike, I'm waiting for pictures to makes sure its in good condition, and to see if its a good size for me. At a towering 5'2", that should be a problem.

I have a little over $1000 set aside already, and I hope to get up to $1500 by the end of the month, and $2000 by the end of August.
But that'll only happen if I get more hours from The Pig (its been only about 20 hours a week, for an average of $14o)

***Did you know that German is the official language of 5 countries?
